The Role
The Chief Engineer is responsible for taking any necessary actions for safety, security, pollution prevention and the efficient operation of the ships, engine room and associated mechanical/electrical services. In certain situations, this may mean deviation from documented procedures.
Principal Responsibilities
• Efficient operation and maintenance of all plant and equipment associated with safety and anti-pollution as defined by statutory legislation and company procedures
• Regular inspections of all plant and equipment
• Maintaining stand-by plant and systems in a completed state of readiness to meet any emergency requirements
• Testing stand-by systems on a regular basis and in accordance with company procedure
• Assigning ratings specific roles with respect to the engineering department’s responsibilities under the safety management system
• Investigating non-conformances and applying corrective action as agreed with the ship’s Master
The Candidate
• Previous experience as Chief Engineer on board a similar vessel
• COC required Chief Engineer, STCW III/3, < 3000 k
• STCW Advanced Firefighting and Fire Prevention
• STCW Personal Survival Techniques
• STCW Proficiency in Survival craft and rescue boats
